TRACT 87: LIKE ZACCHAEUS?
''And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully'' Luke 19:5-6.
Zacchaeus was a rich tax collector who became rich through illegal collection of money from people. One day, Jesus was passing through Jericho with multitude following him; and Zacchaeus desired to see who Jesus was, but because of his short height and crowd, could not see Jesus. He ran to a route where Jesus would pass and climbed a Sycomore tree. When Jesus arrived the sycomore tree; he looked up, called Zacchaeus by name and asked him to come down. Jesus told him that he would be his guest at his house. Though, the multitude following Jesus murmured that Jesus has gone to be guest of corrupt Zacchaeus; but joyful Zacchaeus promised to make right his wrongs. He told Jesus that he would give half of his goods to the poor and also restore all that he has wrongfully collected from people fourfold ''And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham'' John 19:9.
Jesus is the Friends sinners but hate their sins. The sinners are lost children of God whose eyes have been blindfolded by Satan into the world of ungodliness. Jesus' mission on earth is to make sinners children of God. A song writer wrote: Sinners Jesus will receive; sound this word of grace to all. Who the heavenly pathway leave, All who linger, all who fail: Sing it o'er, and o'er, again, Christ receiveth sinful men; Make the message clear and plain; Christ receive sinful men.
Jesus has not come to condemn anyone but to call all unto salvation. Just as Zacchaeus sought Jesus with all his heart; Jesus wants all sinners to seek him. Just as Zacchaeus responded to Jesus' call; Jesus wants all sinners to respond to his call. Just as Zacchaeus joyfully received Jesus into his house; Jesus wants all sinners to gladly receive his words into their hearts. Just as Zacchaeus repented of sins and made restitution; Jesus wants all sinners to repent of sins and make their ways right with God and man. The sad news is that many sinners and unbelievers will not border to know about Jesus and will miss their moment of salvation.
The Good News is that God loves you and know you by name. You are not to bad for Him to show mercy. He wants you to come out of the world of sin into the marvelous light of Jesus. Jesus wants to be guest in your heart. He is waiting for you response.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and call to be light. I am very sorry for all my sins. Have mercy upon me. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit; and grant me the grace to make my ways right with you and man in Jesus' Name. Amen
