“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” James 4:4.
We read in the book of Genesis Chapter Thirty Five how Jacob commanded his household to change their garments and put away the strange gods in their hands and ears prior to the hour of worship at Bethel (House of God). They had no Bible but knew in their conscience that it is an abomination to put on idolatrous adornments. In the early days of the church, the believers were not called Christians. It was in the Antioch Church the disciples through their inward and outward dispositions were first called Christians by the people. Their lifestyles depicted that of Christ and varied significantly from the rest of the society around them “… And the disciples were first called Christians first in Antioch” Acts 11:26.
We live in the twenty first century whereby lifestyles that were considered abomination and idolatry by the saints of old (Christians) through the conviction of the Holy Spirit are now considered society norms. Gone are the days when Christians were easily spotted out from the crowd in their modest attires. Gone are the days when Christian’s girls, ladies and women considered it shame to wear trousers and harlotry garments in public (Deuteronomy 22:5). Gone are the days when Christian’s boys, guys and men considered it abomination to put on gay wears in public. Worldliness has crept into church of God. Christian’s girls, ladies and women are now very comfortable to come into the presence (Church) of the LORD without their heads covered, in abominable wears (miniskirts, micro skirts, trousers, tore trousers, low waist, low neck, see through clothes, clingy/body hug, sexy shoes, men’ T-shirt and others sensual wears) and idolatrous adornments (nose rings, ear rings, lip rings, eye lashes, hair attachments, bleaching creams, necklaces, bracelets, leg chains, lip paints, facial paint and other sensual make up). Christian’s boys, guys and men are also comfortable to come into the presence of Almighty God putting on dread locks, demonic hair cut, ear rings, chains, tattoo and gay ornaments.
It is will of God for all girls, ladies, women to adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness, and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array (1 Timothy 2:9). It is the will of God for them to avoid the pride of life through fixing of idolatrous adornments (Isaiah 3:16-21). It is the will of God for all boys, guys and men to do away with pride of life through putting on of gay clothing and rings (James 2:2-3). The truth is always bitter as many will pick offense from the timely message of God “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” 2 Timothy 4:2-4. The sad news is that many will remain adamant in worldliness and idolatrous lifestyles and consider this message not suitable for 21st century Christians but will end up in hell (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
The Good News is that God loves you. He wants you to repent from sins and backslidden state and come to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing in his precious blood. God wants you to humble yourself and earnestly contend for faith delivered unto old saints. He wants to set you free from the captivity of demons and beautify your life with the nine fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance (Galatians 5:22-23). God wants you to worship him in spirit and truth; in spiritual songs, psalms and hymns; and singing with grace in your heart (John 4:24; Colossians 3:16). He wants you to surrender your life totally unto Jesus. Jesus is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your undiluted word. I humble myself at your word and say sorry for allowing worldliness in my life; and for corrupting my body, soul and spirit with idolatrous adornments. Forgive me all my sins and cleanse me in the blood of Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and make me a Christian in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
