TRACT 24: THE GOOD SHEPHERD
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” John 10:11 & 27.
From generation to generation, God has not left His likeness creatures without massengers of righteousness. He rose up special messengers among men to warn and preach righteousness in their generations; and among all the messengers ever lived, there was non like Jesus. Jesus is the only messenger sent directly from heaven. He is the good and sinless shepherd still living, and approved by God to lead His sheep in His way of righteousness and true worship. Jesus’ countenance was transformed into shining light on the mount of transfiguration in the presence of His three closest disciples (Peter, James and John) and with the appearance of long time ever lived Moses and Elijah. The disciples wanted to make three tabernacles; one for Jesus (The Good Shepherd), one for Moses (The Law Giver) and on for Elijah (Prophets Representative) but God declared the Law and Prophets fulfilled and completed in Jesus. “While yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” Matthew 17:5.
It is the will of God that all (men, women, boys, girls and children) become sheep under the care and tutelage of shepherd Jesus. A shepherd is one who takes care of sheep. God’s people are referred to as sheep because of sheep-like characteristics. Sheep are meek, non threaten, good listeners and good followers. God wants all living souls to follow Jesus. He was with Him before the earth was formed and he knows all His ways. He was sent into the world to lead humanity in the way of Holiness and to be a sacrificial lamb for the sin of the whole world. He submitted to the will of the Heavenly Father until his last breath on the cross of Calvary. He died, resurrected and is giving life to his the sheep of the LORD.
God is not happy with people who have not made themselves sheep under the shepherd Jesus. He is not happy with sinners who are behaving like goats; living in disobedience and rebellion. God is not happy with unbelievers who do not believe that Jesus is the Saviour of the whole world but following other prophets and idols. The helper which Jesus promised to beg Heavenly Father to send is the Holy Spirit and not any prophet. He is not happy with backslidden Christians who have left the sheepfold of Christ either because of trials or worldly pleasures. The Sad news is that any person who is not in the sheepfold of Christ will not make Heaven but hell.
The Good news is that Jesus Christ truly cares for you. He wants you to be numbered among his sheep. You are not too bad for Jesus to receive. He is ready to forgive you all your sins and wash you in His precious blood. No other messenger can guarantee you life after death but Jesus. He is waiting for you to make him Lord of your life today.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your word. Thank you for revealing the good shepherd unto me. Forgive me all my sins, unbelief and cleanse me in the precious blood of Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the daily grace to remain as sheep under the good Shepherd in Jesus’ Name. Amen
