TRACT 13: HE IS STILL BURNING
“ And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom ” Luke 16:23.
The story of the rich man and Lazarus in the Bible, told by Jesus Christ more than 2000 years ago was not a parable but a true life story. The rich man during his life time had many good things of life; clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted every day with rich meal. Lazarus on the other hand was very poor and full of sore all over his body. He was always at the rich man gate to beg but received no attention from the rich man. Lazarus died, buried and his soul was carried by God’s angel into Abraham bosom. The rich man also died, buried and His soul went to burning hell. “ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame” Luke 16:24.
God is not willing that the soul of any person should perish in hell, but be in a place of rest. The rich man is still burning and crying up till this very moment. He is not in hell because he was very rich on earth, clothed in fine clothes or feasted expensively. He is in hell simply because he neither loved God (with the whole of his heart, soul and mind) nor his neighbor as himself. Lazarus was an hunger, sick and needed shelter, but the rich man did not give out of his abundance. He never provided food for him, he never provided shelter for him and he never attended to his health issue like the Samaritan man.
God is not happy that many people are living like the rich man who did not love God with the whole of his heart, soul and mind. He is not happy that many are uneager to worship God in spirit and in truth; uneager to study the word of God; uneager to be in fellowship with other believers and uneager to share the message of salvation with sinners and unbelievers. God is not happy that many are less concern for the poor, needy, homeless, and the sick. The sad news is that sinners, unbelievers and backsliders will go to hell where the rich man is burning and crying.
The Good news is that God has provided a way of escape for you through Jesus Christ. He wants you to make Jesus your best companion. He wants to save you, sanctify you and fill you with the Holy Spirit so that you can have power to love God and love your neighbour as yourself. God want you to confess, forsake your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and personal savior.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and word. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I humbly confess me sins (mention them one by one). Please, forgive me and wash me in the blood of the lamb Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit, and grant me the grace to love you and love my neighbour as myself in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
