TRACT 122: BORN OF THE WORD (on 22/11/2002)
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever" 1 Peter 1:23.
The writer thought that he was a Christian simply by birth into a church going family, and by been a member of Church choir; but became convicted and born of the Word of Christ while in secondary school (SS 2) on November 22nd, 2002 (coincidental day of his birthday) during one of the Fridays' School Fellowship. His old life, salvation, sanctification and Holy Spirit baptism experiences are contained in tract 90.
Everyone is born of the flesh ( a woman) but not everyone is born of the word (water and spirit). It is the soul who had genuine encounter with the Word (Jesus); genuinely repented of sin and continue daily in the word of Christ that is born again (born the second time). A religious leader (Nicodemus by name) who was versed in the laws of Moses, onced came to Jesus by night to ask the way of salvation. Jesus plainly told him that except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Explicitly, Jesus said unto him ".. Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" John 3:5.
To be born of water is to genuinely repent of sin, worldliness and unbelief after been convicted in the Word of God. John the Baptist (forerunner of Jesus) was sent by God to preach repentance from sin and to prepare men for the full salvation, sanctification and Holy Spirit baptism in Jesus. When Jesus came, he also preached repentance and the kingdom of God. He became the Saviour, Sanctifier and Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. To be born of the Spirit is to be saved, sanctified and baptized in the Holy Spirit. At salvation, one's sins are forgiven through Jesus. At sanctification, one's heart is purified from impure thought through the Word of God. At Holy Spirit baptism, one's life is equipped for service unto God and fruit bearing " But the fruit of the Spirit is love, Joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance.." Galatians 5:22-23.
Dear reader! Are you born of the word? Are you born again? Is your life bearing the nine fruit of the Spirit? Remember, Jesus said " Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" John 3:3.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Word (Jesus). I repent of sin and unbelief. Have mercy upon me and forgive me all my sins. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to live daily by your word. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
