TRACT 108: JESUS' LAST SEVEN WORDS (On the Cross)

Here are the last seven words of dying Jesus on the cross of Calvary.

1. Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do - Luke 23:34
The consequence of sin and unbelief is eternal suffering in hell. If sinners and unbelievers (Jealous religious leaders and their followers) had knew this, they would have believed in righteous Jesus and not crucified him. Jesus anticipated for their salvation and conversion; and begged the father to avert His instant judgment on them. What a greatest dept of love!
The question is, are you among sinners, unbelievers who are still crucifying Jesus?

2. Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise - Luke 23:43
There were two thieves crucified on the two other crosses beside Jesus, who heard Jesus begging the father to forgive his enemies (sinners and unbelievers) but only one repented and humbly asked Jesus for salvation. He received instant salvation and became the first convert at Calvary to enter paradise with Jesus. What an amazing grace!
The question is, are you ready to repent of sin and unbelief; and humbly ask Jesus for forgiveness and salvation?

3. ..he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! - John 19:26-27
Jesus' mother and his beloved disciple (John) stayed closer to Jesus while other disciples stayed afar because of fear and persecution. Jesus noticed them and cared for them. He left his mother with solace. What a compassionate Jesus who careth for his own!
The question is, are you a faithful believer and follower of Jesus?

4. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? - Mark 15:34
God eyes are too pure to behold sins. God temporary forsook Jesus for bearing the sins of the whole world upon himself on the cross of Calvary. What a friend we have in Saviour Jesus!
The question is, will you still forsake a lovely friend who bore your sins on the cross of Calvary?

5. I thirst - John 19:28
Jesus, the giver of living water became physically dried after giving out his water of life to the world on the cross of Calvary. What an unselfish but generous giver of living water!
The question is, are you thirsting for the living water of life?

6. It is finished - John 19:30
The final and acceptable sacrifice to God for the remission of sins and free access to the throne of GRACE (God's Riches At Christ Expense) has been completed by Jesus. What a perfect sacrifice made by the spotless Lamb Jesus!
The question is, have you appropriated the final work of grace into your life?

7. Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit - Luke 23:46
Jesus knew that he was righteous and had not committed any sin that would make Satan hold him bound in hell fire. He committed his spirit into God's hands. What a righteous Jesus!
The greatest question
is, who would be in possession of your soul after your last breath on earth: God or Satan? Sinners, unbelievers and backslidden Christians would spend eternity in hell with Satan while genuine Christians who are holy in heart and following peace with all men would spend eternity with God in heaven. Just like the repentant thief, no one is to bad for Jesus to save. To receive instant salvation, humble yourself and say the following prayer

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and call unto repentance. I acknowledge that I am a sinner; I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross of Calvary, and I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Forgive me all my sins and cleanse me in the blood of Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to abide in you till the end of my pilgrim Journey on earth, in Jesus' Name. Amen
