TRACT 104: VALENTINE OR GOOD SAMARITAN DAY?
''A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one and another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another'' John 13:34-35.
It has become a norm for the world to commemorate some special days; of such days include Valentine day (February 14) and the Good Samaritan day (March 13). The Good Samaritan day commemoration is biblical and every March 13 is used for commemoration of Catherine Genovese, who was stabbed to death in 1964. Her neighbours would have saved her life had it been one of them acted like the Good Samaritan. On March 13, few people around the world who know what true agape love means do something for others; volunteer their time and help others, help strangers, visit the orphans and widows and also share the gospel of Christ to others. Valentine day which has no biblical origin and having conflicting historical background have gained more recognition than the sacred Good Samaritan day. The day has been abused; and is one of the happiest days in the kingdom of darkness because on that day, a lot of evil is recorded under heaven.
Many children, youths and adults do not know the origin of valentine celebration but celebrate it as the day of romance, and exchange of gifts among opposite genders. On Valentine day, many wear attires having the colour of danger (red); and put on seductive dresses and make up to attract opposite genders. On the day of Valentine, a lot of lustful text messages, love stories, corrupt pictures, immoral music and videos are exchange all over the world - all in the name of love. Yes, of Course, the world needs love. In fact, the whole commandment is centered on love. God first loved us by giving Jesus to us and Jesus showed us the greatest love by laying down is life for us. Jesus also commanded us to love. To buttress what it means to love, Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke Chapter 10. The deed of the Good Samaritan man is a typical example of true agape love without any secret motive.
Every day is so important before God and God wants every living soul to live each day doing good and rendering selfless assistance to others. As a Christian, remember that you are the light of the world and called to make the love of Christ known to all men. Abstain from every appearance of evil and above all, remember to celebrate each day with the nine fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance). As a sinner, remember this day that there is someone who loves you the most and he is no other person than Jesus. Repent, stay away from evil and surrender your life to him today.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for extending your love to me. Forgive me for all evil things I have done. Save me, sanctify me and baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Grant me the grace to love you with the whole of my heart, soul and spirit; and to live in agape love with others in Jesus' Name. Amen
