''Abstain from all appearance of evil'' 1Thessalonians 5:22.
The Almighty God knew before hand that men would become inventors of so many things that could leads to destruction of their souls; that was why he forbade the first man and woman from eating fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But the first parents disobeyed, ate from the forbidden tree and became small gods and inventors. One of the notable inventions of man is handset (mobile phone). With the handsets, the world has turned into portable global village; as man can now view the whole world through the small screen of handsets. No doubt, some use their handsets to edify their souls either in private or public while others use them to destroy their souls. Those that use their handsets to destroy their souls are often too quick to forget that they would stand and give accounts of what they did in secret and public with their phones on the day of judgment ''For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil'' Ecclesiastes 12:14.
A young pastor once told his congregants that the church would embark on one week prayer and fast. He said that everyone could take three square meals on each of the fasting days save their handsets would be limited to only phone call and incoming calls (No chatting, on social media, no browsing, no watching of movies, no listening to music and no playing of games). Majority of the congregants shouted and considered it a hard fast. Nonetheless, only few members were faithful from the start till the end. Majority of the faithful ones gave testimonies on how they were revived in their souls and in the spirits. Some said that they had bountiful time for Bible study, daily devotion in prayers and worship; while some others said, they lived holily and committed no sin with their handsets. The sad truth was that majority of the unfaithful congregants were mobile phone addicts; who have turned their handsets into idols.
Nowadays, mobile phones addicts are present everywhere. They are always pressing their phones during church service. While on the motorcycle or on the street/road, they chat, watch movies, browse, and listen to music. They stay awake late in the night, busy operating their phones. Their phones are stores for corrupt movies, music, pictures. What a shame! Many profess to be Christians, but all their social media likes and followers are worldly celebrities, worldly music and movies. No wonder many are unaware they are demon possessed. Some often speak in evil tongues thinking they have the Holy Spirit at work in them.
What are you using your mobile phone for, visiting corrupt sites and for fraudulent activities? What are your social media post, edifying or destructive? If the internet and social media handlers could have the records of your entire favourite sites on internet, how about the all knowing God! The sad truth is that all users who promote the work of darkness with their phones will shockingly found their souls in hell.
The Good News is that God loves you and wants to deliver you from the demon causing you to sin with your handset. He wants you to repent and surrender your life to Jesus. Only Jesus can deliver your soul from going to hell. Jesus can transform your life and make you an agent of light on social media.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and words of caution. Have mercy upon me for many times I have sinned through my mobile phones. Deliver me from the demonic bondage I have put myself and make me your agent of light. Save me, sanctify me and baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Grant me the grace to delete all the unedifying social media post, pictures, videos, and to unlike all the worldly movies, celebrities and music, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
