TRACT 89: STOP GOING LATE
''The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre'' John 20:1.
The first woman to see Jesus after his resurrection on Sunday was Mary Magdalene, the woman whom Jesus delivered from seven demonic spirits. Mary was a faithful and grateful follower of Christ. She was present during Jesus’ crucifixion, burial; first to the tomb in the early morning of Sunday, and stayed behind when others left the tomb. Her consistent devotion to the Lord made Jesus to reveal himself first to her. Jesus had eleven living apostles, many disciples, mother, sisters and brothers; but none of them was first that resurrection Sunday save grateful Mary. Her weeping at the empty tomb immediately turned into worship ''Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seeketh thou? She, supposing him to be gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turneth herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master'' John 20:15-16.
The Lord's Day (Sunday) is the day of worship and service to God which is in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus. The early church started it. Many believers today fix a specific time for the commencement of worship during morning hours of Sunday, but default in keeping appointment with almighty God. Many adult worshippers know how they get up early for work and many young ones and youths know how they often go early to their citadels of learning. But on the Lord's Day, many tarry and go late to church.
God deserves our respect and honour on the Lord's Day. Going late to church is disrespecting God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. Going late to church is disregarding the pastors and ministers of God. Entering the church late distract worship service. Many, just like the five foolish virgins who missed the bridegroom, have missed their hour of angelic visitation simply because of lateness in the church. Imagine that God decided to rapture all the worshippers present in His sanctuary the very first minute of the service session, what would be your story? Would you be among the lucky ones?
The truth is that God wants you to change. He loves you and wants to have fellowship with you. God wants you to repent of going late to church. He does not want your story to end up like the five foolish virgins.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and calling me unto repentance. I am very sorry for many times I have dishonoured you on the Lord's Day. Have mercy upon and forgive me all my sins. Save me, sanctify my heart, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to honour you every day of my life in Jesus' Name. Amen
