TRACT 75: HUMBLE YOURSELF

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded” James 4: 6-8.

There are two virtues that exalt and make one find favour in the sight of God and man. They are meekness and humility. Meekness makes one to find favour in the sight of God and man while humility before God exalts and secures one eternity in heaven. Those who think they can live anyhow on earth according to the dictates of the world are not humble but proud. Those who claim they are worshiping God but rightly rejecting Jesus as the Saviour of the world are false worshippers. And those believers fond of putting on worldly adornments(make up, attachment, ladies trousers, miniskirt, leggings, bleaching, tattoo, ear rings, nose rings, chains and so on) are proud and disobedient worshippers “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” James 4:10.

To humble oneself before God is to be Christlike. When Christ was on earth, he lived a totally submissive life before God. He did not see himself equal with God; as he referenced God day and night in prayer and worship. No sin was ever found in his life. He was meek before John the Baptist and humble before God. He found favour when he subjected himself to water baptism; as the Holy Spirit descended upon him and endued him with the power to manifest God's given grace to the whole word. He demonstrated humility before God even till the point of death, and exalted into heaven. God hates the proud but gives grace to the humble souls who thirst after Christ righteousness.

''Pride goes befall a fall'', said a writer. Sinners who refuse to humble themselves before God but wallowing in sins are preparing for a fall into hell. To exalt any prophet or man more than Jesus during worship is demonstration of pride and idolatry. To consider it a waste of time to pray, study the Bible ad attend fellowship is demonstration of pride and carnality. The sad news is that all proud people will not be lifted into heaven but cast in hell.

The Good News is that God loves you and wants to exalt you on earth and in heaven. He wants you to humble yourself totally and surrender your live to Christ. Jesus has the power to cleanse you. He is waiting for you know.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and call to humility. Have mercy upon me Lord. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to humble myself daily before you in Jesus' Name. Amen
