“And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men” Mark 1:17
A song writer wrote “Be a missionary every day, Tell the world that Jesus is the way, Be it in the town, our country or the busy avenue, Africa or Asia, the task is up to you, so…Be a missionary every day, Tell the world that Jesus is the way, The Lord is soon returning, There is no time to loose, so…Be a missionary, God’s own emissary, Be a missionary today”. Everyone is called first to follow Jesus, to know how to live a life that pleases God, and finally to reach out unto others the teaching of Christ on lifestyles and worship that pleases God “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” Matthew 28:19-20.
The work of missionary is for everyone whose mind is made up to follow Christ. Mission work entails preaching Christian faith, using one’s gifts, skills and talents to draw all (men, women, boys, girls, and children) to Christ, and demonstrating the love of Christ through provision of humanitarian aid. The world has become a global village and technology has made it so easy to carry out this assignment. From printed pages (tracts) to the fast transportation system and to the fast moving world of social media and internet; one can reach out to the world. One does not need to travel far as everywhere on earth where human beings are found (homes, neighborhoods, streets, markets, schools, places of worship, hospitals, prisons, and places of work) is a mission field. The mission work is only work with earthly and eternal rewards.
God’s will for all teachers, trainers, lecturers, students and pupils is to be missionaries. God’s will for all medical personnel, caregivers, artisans, business owners, office holders, politicians, security personnel, sport men, journalists, singers, farmers, marketers, transporters is to be missionary. God’s will for religion leaders, workers and members is to be missionaries. God’s will for all social media handlers and users, is to become missionaries in this world that has turned global village. No one can be an emissary of God if he or she has not responded to the call to follow after Jesus. The sad news is that many will not respond to the call to be a missionary and would regret after life on earth in eternity beyond for not using their talents, gifts, skills and resources to draw others to Christ.
The Good News is that God loves you. He wants you to respond to the call of Jesus to follow him and be a missionary. To be a missionary, you must first repent from sin, unbelief and backsliding, ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Jesus, and make Jesus your Lord. No one who uses his/her talents, skills, energy and resources to promote the kingdom of God will go unrewarded here on earth and in heaven. Jesus is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and call to be a missionary for Christ. Have mercy upon me for the many times I have rejected your call to live a Christ-like life. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to live a missionary life on earth in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
