“So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them” Jonah 3:5
The message of the LORD was sent to the great city of Nineveh through the preacher Jonah; just like His message is reaching you now. The inhabitants of Nineveh were extremely wicked and sinful, and had no one to warn them. The merciful God, who does not destroy sinners without first giving warning, sent Prophet Jonah to preach repentance unto them. All the people (men, women, boys, girls and little children) after hearing the message of Jonah believed God, embarked on fasting and cried to God in Prayer. They all repented from wickedness and God turned away His wrath from them “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he said that he would do unto them; and he did it not” Jonah 3:10.
Our towns are cities today are likened to the great and wicked city of Nineveh. There are immoralities, wickedness, pollution, corruption and evil almost everywhere; right in homes, in the streets, in market places, schools, hotels and other public places. In our today’s world, most female genders do dress seductively to attract opposite genders and lure them into immoralities. The male genders engage in ungodly behaviours (drugging, alcoholism, smoking, cultism, humanizing and evil practices) in order to satisfy their desires. There are now scarcities of preachers of righteousness to warn sinners but numerous preachers of worldliness. The merciful God is still sending warning messages to sinners, unbelievers and backsliders to repent and escape His wrath.
God is calling on all sinners to repent from sin and wickedness, and humbly approach him in prayer for mercy. God is calling on unbelievers to repent from holding unto self righteousness and embrace Christ’s righteousness. A religious man who is living with more than one wife is not righteous before God but a sinner. A religious man who is taking alcoholic drinks is not righteous before God but a sinner. A self acclaimed Christian who lives in worldliness (putting on seductive wears, addicted to corrupt music and speeches, full of evil thoughts and indulging in evil practices) is not righteous before God but a sinner. The sad news is that all who engage in wickedness and evil practices, if not come onto repentance will suffer eternally in hell.
The Good News is that God loves you and wants you to repent from sin and wickedness. He does not want your soul to perish in hell. He wants you to humbly approach Him in prayers and confess all your sins to Jesus. Jesus is merciful to forgive all your sins and he is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and timely warning. I repent from all my sins. Have mercy upon me and cleanse me from every wickedness and defilement. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to do wickedness no more in Jesus’ Name. Amen
