TRACT 63: GO AND SIN NO MORE
“And when Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus saith unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more” John 8:10-11
A woman was caught in adultery by some scribes and Pharisees and brought to Jesus for judgment. Those Scribes and Pharisees’ motive was to tempt Jesus and accuse him, if he should go contrary to the Law of Moses which commanded that whosoever caught in adultery should be stoned. But Jesus stooped down, and with his fingers wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. After a while, Jesus asked anyone that is without sin should be the first to stone the woman. But none did cast stone at her because their conscience convicted them of their own secret sins. They left one by one starting from the eldest to the youngest leaving Jesus and the woman alone. Since no one remained to condemn the woman, Jesus told her to go and sin no more “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” John 3:17.
The accuser of men before God is Satan. He always gives reasons why God should not forgive men their sins, and why men should perish. A little dot of sin in the life of someone is enough for Satan to accuse the person before God and for him to claim ownership of the sinner’s soul. Jesus was not sent to condemn the world but to save the souls of men. The woman was not the only one involved in adultery but only she was taken by the scribes and Pharisees, and presented before Jesus. The merciful Saviour did not condemn her but told her to go and sin no more.
Just as the woman was caught in adultery by the monitoring scribes and Pharisees; Satan also has his monitoring demons which go about monitoring the steps of careless believers, sinners and unbelievers. Just as God knows every secret sin that men commit; the kingdom of darkness also knows every evil works of men. Jesus was not a judge during his stay on earth but will be the judge on the judgment day. The sad news is that the sinning souls, if not come to repentance, would be strictly judged and condemned into hell.
The Good News is that God loves you and wants you to come out of sin. You are not too bad for Him to forgive. He sent Jesus to save you from sin and to save your soul from hell. God wants you to humble yourself and come to Jesus for forgiveness. Jesus is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and for calling me unto repentance. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please, have mercy upon me and erase all my sins with the precious blood of Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to go and sin no more, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
