TRACT 61: THE COMPASSIONATE FRIEND

“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people” Matthew 9:35

There were many religious leaders before he started his three fold ministry. Those religious leaders claimed to teach the people in the way of God but never fully practiced what they thought. They put burdens upon their followers and asked them to live by the Law of Moses and their traditions. It was never recorded that they healed any sick, raised the dead, cast demons or preached the kingdom of God. However, when Jesus started his three fold ministry (teaching preaching and healing), the multitude saw the difference between their religious leaders and Jesus. The multitude saw that Jesus practiced what he taught, preached to them the kingdom of heaven and had compassion on them “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd” Matthew 9:36.

God is always moved with compassion for His image-like creatures on earth. The life of sorrow and wandering on earth was never in His plan for humanity at the beginning. It was initially a life full of Joy, peace, love, happiness and intimate fellowship with God. Man and woman could see God face to face and talk with Him as friend; as God always descended from heaven to have fellowship with them. However, the joy, peace, loves and friendship with God was cut short as a result of sin. God’s love for humanity made Him to send down Jesus from heaven. And when Jesus came, he had compassion on the world. Besides his teaching, preaching and healing ministry, he laid down his life for all.

It is a pity that many sinners will keep on wallowing in sin. It is a pity that many unbelievers will not believe in the teaching, preaching and healing ministry of Jesus. It is a pity that many nominal Christians are not following after Christ but following after the dictate of the world. The sad news is that anyone who does not follow the compassionate friend will not be received in heaven but hell.

The Good News is that God loves you and wants you to be in close relationship with the compassionate Friend. Jesus cares about your physical and spiritual well being. He wants you to repent from sin and make him your close friend so that he can guarantee you eternal fellowship with God in heaven. He is waiting for you now.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and for giving me a compassionate Friend. I repent from my sins and unbelief. Have mercy upon me and wash away my sins in the precious blood of Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to stick to the compassionate Friend till the end, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
