“Likewise also as it was in the days of lot; they did eat, they eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” Luke 17:28-30
They (young and old) woke up the following morning to continue with their normal sexual and immoral system of life but never knew that their time was up on earth. The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah in their days lived in great affluence. They never made God center of their life but provoked Him daily until their filthiness waxed great before God in heaven. God sent His angels from heaven, rained down fire and brimstones and burned them all save lot, his wife and the two unmarried daughters. Our world today is likened to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah and much more evil than their days. The wrath of God is about to unleashed on earth again and only those who make God center of their lives and watch for the coming of Jesus will escape His wrath “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come… Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” Matthew 24: 42 & 44.
God wants every living soul on earth to learn from what happened to all inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah. Though, they are no more on earth; they are still burning in hell and they will continue to burn until the final Day of Judgment where Satan and sinners will be cast into eternal lake of fire. They had the privilege to repent from their sins when lot pleaded with them not to do evil against his visitors (angels) but they refused. The sons-in-law also had privilege to flee the cities and escape for their life when the two angels sent them message through lot; but considered the message as mockery. Though, lot’s wife escaped the fire and brimstones but lost her life as a result of disobedience. They were commanded not to look back to the world of Sodom and Gomorrah but she looked back and became pillar of salt.
Just as it was in the days of lots; God is not happy with sinners living in immoralities and evil practices. Just as it was in the days of lot that the sons-in law made mockery of the message from angels to escape for their lives; God is not happy with unbelievers making mockery of the gospel Christ. Just as it was to lot’s wife who disobeyed by looking back to the things left behind; God is not pleased with fake Christians who do not put the word of God into practice. The sad news is that sinners, unbelievers and backsliders will all perish in eternal fire like the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The Good News is that God has provided you the way of escape from eternal fire and that way is Jesus. God wants you to yield his warnings and repent from sins. He wants you to surrender you life to Jesus and become his faithful follower. Jesus has the power to forgive all your sins and give you a brand new life. He is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the timely warning. Please, have mercy upon me and forgive me all my sins. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the daily grace to live in obedience to your word in Jesus’ Name. Amen
