“And when the morning arose, the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city… And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed “ Genesis 19:15,17.
“Remember lot’s wife” were the words of the Lord Jesus during his sermon on the coming of the Kingdom of God. Salvation is free but not cheap. The price that God demand from all living souls after salvation through Jesus is simply the continuous obedience to His word. Lot found favour and mercy from God to take the message of salvation to all his family members and son’s in law; to escape for their lives but seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. Lot’s wife was among the souls (Lot, Lot’s wife and his two unmarried daughters) saved by two angels who God sent to destroy the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah with brimstone and fire. They were commanded to flee the cities and not to look back, but Lot’s wife looked back and became pillar of salt “But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt” Genesis 19:26.
It is the will of God that all (men, women, boys, girls and children) accept His offer for salvation and live daily in obedience to His word. Our days are likened to the days of sinful Sodom and Gomorrah; corrupted with immoralities, idolatry and evil practices, and God is about to release His wrath upon the earth. Just as God provided a way of escape for Lot and his family; He has provided a way of escape for all living souls and tha way is salvation through Jesus. Jesus died on the cross of Calvary for the sins of the whole world and to deliver humanity from eternal fire. He will by no means reject anyone who comes to him for forgiveness and refuge.
God is not pleased with backslidden Christians who claim to be saved but looking and falling back to the old ways of life just as lot’s wife. God is not pleased with unbelievers who make mockery of salvation from Christ just as sons in laws of Lot make mockery of him. God is not pleased with sinners whose hearts are hardened to salvation message. The sad news is that backsliders, unbelievers and sinners, if not come to repentance will partake of the eternal wrath of God.
The Good News is that God loves you and does not want your soul to burn in eternal fire. He wants you to gladly receive the message of salvation and seek refuge in Jesus Christ. He wants you to confess, forsake your sins and live in obedience to His command. He is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and message of salvation. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Have mercy upon me and forgive me all my sins. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to work out my salvation by living in obedience to your words and command in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
