TRACT 52: LIKE THE GOOD SAMARITAN?
“And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live” Luke 10:25-28.
The parable of Good Samaritan was told by Jesus in response to the questions asked by a lawyer concerning how to inherit eternal life and his neighbour. In his parable, a certain man was attacked by thieves on his way from Jerusalem down to Jericho; stripped of his cloth, wounded and left half dead. By chance, a passerby who happened to be a priest looked on him lying helplessly on the ground and went on his way without helping him. And likewise a Levite looked on him and passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed came where he was and had compassion on him. He treated his wound, took him to a physician for further treatment and paid for his treatment. The priest and Levite professed to be worshippers and lovers of God but failed to show practical love. While the Good Samaritan reciprocated his love for God by showing it to the wounded man “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” John 15:12-15.
It is the will of God for everyone to become true worshipper in Christ and to emulate the Good Samaritan in Christ-like love. The story of the Good Samaritan is similar to what Jesus did for fallen humanity. Man was on pilgrim journey on earth. He was attacked by Satan, robbed of his glory and left wounded on earth with sin, sickness and afflictions. Man became fallen on earth and no man could help and deliver him from sin and death. Jesus came down from heaven to rescue the fallen man. He died on the cross to redeem man from sin; and resurrected to raise man back to glory. What a loving and compassionate Jesus!
God is not pleased with sinners who have made themselves instruments of evil and destruction in the hands of Satan. He is not pleased with disobedient Christians who fail to rescue wounded sinners with the message of Salvation. God is also not pleased with unbelievers who reject the gift of salvation provided for humanity through Christ. The sad news is that disobedient Christians, sinners and unbelievers, if not come to repentance will be lost forever in lake of fire.
The Good News is that God loves you and has made Jesus to pay the price for your redemption from sin and death. God wants you to claim your free gift of salvation by confessing your sins to Christ, and making him your Lord and Saviour. He wants you to become true worshiper and good as the Good Samaritan. Jesus is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to rescue from the hands of Satan. I admit that I am a sinner. Have mercy upon me and heal me from the wound of sin. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to emulate the Good Samaritan in Christ-like love in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
