“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few” Acts 17:11-12.
The Bereans are people who lived in a place called Berea. They were not believers in Christ until Paul and Silas due to rejection from unbelieving Thessalonians Jews, left Thessalonica for Berea and preached the message of Salvation. The Bereans received the gospel message with all readiness of mind, and search the Scriptures daily to see whether the gospel message is true. This further increased their belief in what Paul had preached concerning the sacrificial death of Jesus and his resurrection “But as many that as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” John 1:12.
It is the will of God for all (men, women, boys, girls and children) to humble themselves and gladly received the gospel message. The gospel message (Good News) is the message of forgiveness for sin and deliverance from eternal death through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to the world; died on the cross of Calvary for the sin of humanity, and resurrected to prove that he is the resurrection of life and Saviour of the whole world. He came with the message of love, peace and righteousness, and anyone who believes not in His gospel is an enemy of God.
God is not pleased with unbelievers who believe not the gospel of Christ but practicing religion of violence, self righteousness and washing in water for the cleansing from sins. God is not pleased with nominal Christians who are not living by the word of God but after the works of flesh. God is not pleased with sinners who are wallowing in the immoralities, idolatry and evil practices. The sad news is that unbelievers, fake Christians and sinners will face the wrath of God in eternity.
The Good News is that God is the merciful Father and does not want your soul to perish in hell. He loves you and wants you to gladly receive the gospel message. God wants you to become His child by believing on the Lord Jesus. He wants you to humble yourself and surrender your life totally to Jesus. Only Jesus can guarantee you life after life journey on earth. Jesus is waiting for you now.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the message of Good News. I am ready to receive the gospel. Have mercy upon me and forgive me all my sins and unbelief. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to search your word daily in Jesus’ Name. Amen. MORE GRACE TO CONTINUE IN NEW LIFE
