TRACT 47: THE REPENTANT PRODIGAL SON
“I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee. And am no worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him” Luke 15:18-20.
The parable of a wasteful younger son was told by the Saviour Jesus. He and his elder brother had everything provided them by their father but woke up one day and asked his father for his inheritance. His father gave him his inheritance and having received his inheritance; he went into a far away country and wasted his substance in a sinful manner. He had no alternative than to pick a pig feeding job for survival. He would desire to be fed from the pigs’ food, but no one gave him. He soon acknowledged he has sinned against heaven and wronged his father. He repented and went back home to seek his father’s forgiveness and to make him one his servants “But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry” Luke 15:22-24.
It is the desire of God that all (men, women, boys, girls and children) come to repentance. Any one that is living in sin is dead while living. God did not send Jesus to condemn the world but to seek the lost. Just as the prodigal son, the lost are those who have departed from doing the will of God and following after the world and their evil desires. The lost are also those who waste their lives in unbelief. The do not believe that Jesus is the Saviour of the whole world; but practicing religions that cannot guarantee eternal life. God wants all sinners and unbelievers to repent and become members of the body of Christ. No one is too bad for Jesus to receive.
God is not pleased with sinners because His eyes are too pure to behold sin. God is not pleased with unbelievers following after prophets and idols which cannot guarantee eternal life. God is not pleased with backslidden Christians who are toying with the grace of God and living in worldliness. The sad news is that sinners, unbelievers and backsliders, if not come to repentance, will end up their souls in eternal fire.
The Good News is that God loves you. He wants you to repent like the prodigal son and come to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing in his precious blood. He wants you to surrender your life totally to Jesus and become member of his church. Heavens want to rejoice over you today as you answer His call.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I repent of all my sins. Come into my heart Saviour Jesus. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to be your obedient child in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
