“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” Matthew 5:13.
The Lord Jesus upon seeing the multitudes that followed him; seized the opportunity, went up into the mountain and gave the Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon on the Month was centered on inward holiness and practical lifestyle of godliness expected of heaven minded individuals. He called His faithful followers the salt of the earth, urged them to have the savour of inward holiness and savour the earth with godliness. “Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another” Mark 9: 50.
It is the will of God that all (men, women, boys, girls and children) are salts, seasoning the world with godliness. Salt is a white substance that is added to food to give it a better flavor. As salt, the lives of Heaven minded individuals should possess the properties of salt; salt is pure and white; it prevents from decay and corruption; it adds value and taste; it is pure and permeate its flavor. Just as salt is pure and white; God wants all to be pure and holy in heart. Just as salt prevents from decay and corruption; God does not want anyone corrupted with the decay of this world (adultery, fornication, sexual immorality, corrupt speeches, worldly music, seductive wears and adornments, smoking, drunkenness, gluttony, pornography and evil practices). Just as salt adds value and taste: God wants all to affect and savour others positively in love and aroma of holiness. Just as salt is precious and silently permeate its flavor; God wants the faithful followers of Christ who are redeemed by the precious blood of the lamb Jesus to permeate the gospel of holiness and peace everywhere (homes, places of work, schools, hospitals, markets, prisons, social gathering, social media and other places). The sad news is that those who are not savouring the earth with holiness and peace will be thrown inside hell fire.
The Good news is that God can make you salt through Jesus. He wants you to come out of sin and cry to Jesus to save you. Jesus can make you whiter as salt. He can make you pure and healthy. He can beautify you life with the nine fragrant fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance). He wants you to make Heaven. Humbly surrender your life to Jesus today and become one of his faithful followers.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your word. I gladly accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Have mercy upon me, and make me pure and whole. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me, and make me the salt of the earth in Jesus’ Name. amen.
