TRACT 16: REPENT
“.. Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” Matthew 4:17
The call to repentance is the central message of the kingdom. John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming Messiah by shouting repent in the wilderness. Jesus began his ministry by preaching to multitude to repent. And the Apostles began the Church on the day of Pentecost by telling people to repent. “And when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the Apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” Acts 2: 37 -38.
It is the will of God that sinners, unbelievers and backsliders repent from sin, unbelief and disobedience. Repentance is a complete turning away from sin, idolatry and disobedience. God wants sinners to turn away from immoralities and evil practices. He wants unbelievers to repent and believe that Jesus is the savior of the whole world. God also wants the backslidden Christians to return fully to Christ and follow him daily. Without repentance, there is no remission of sins and repentance is the open door to salvation, sanctification, Holy Spirit baptism and daily grace in Christ.
God is not happy with sinners, unbelievers and backslidden Christians who have not come into repentance. Sinners who are living by the works of the flesh (adultery, fornication, uncleanness, immoralities, hatred, wrath, strife, envying, murder, smoking, drunkenness, lying, stealing, tattooing, seduction, sedition, corrupt speeches and evil practices) will not inherit the kingdom of God. Unbelievers who are practicing false religion, idolatry and heresies will not enter the kingdom of God. Backslidden Christians who are lost in worldliness and evil practices will not enter the kingdom of God. The sad news is that those who fail to repent will go to hell.
The Good news is that the message of repentance is before you now. Are you pricked in heart? Does your conscience tell of your sin guiltiness, disobedience and unbelief? If so, what shall you do? Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Ask Jesus to save you, sanctify you and baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the kingdom message. I repent of my sins, disobedience and unbelief. Wash me and make me clean in your blood. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to abstain from sin, disobedience and unbelief in Jesus’ Name. Amen
