TRACT 9: SHEEP OR GOAT?

“ When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats” Matthew 25:31-32.

A sheep following its owner in a crowded and busy market caught the attention of a young Christian one day. He observed that no rope was tied around the neck of the sheep and the sheep was moving quickly at the same pace behind its owner. He imagined the scene, if it were to be a goat and its owner. Yes of Course, the goat would have to be forcefully dragged even if a rope is tied around its neck. Instantly, the word of Christ flashed into his mind “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” John 10:27.

It is the will of God that all (men, women, boys, girls and children) become like sheep under the Shepherd Jesus; following and obeying his word. Sheep are very meek, humble, quiet, faithful and gentle animals. Sheep always listen to the voice of their owners and do not listen to the voice of strangers. They care for one another and are always moving in group. Goats on the other hand are rude, unpredictable, offensive and troublesome animals. They do not always listen to their owners and they are bad followers. They are not always contented with the food provided them by their masters but break out from their confinement to steal and eat from other sources. Goats would never yield to correction no matter how their masters or anyone flog them. Above all, goats care less for one another and are selfish.

God is not happy that not many people are like sheep. True Christians are sheep likes, following Jesus daily with full obedience to God. They love God whole heartedly and they care for the spiritual needs (salvation, sanctification and Holy Spirit Baptism) and basic physical needs (food, clothing and shelter) of others. They are known by their fruits: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. The unbelievers and sinners are goat likes. They are false worshippers of God and non followers of Christ. They do not love God whole heartedly and care less for others. They are known by their fruits: uncleanness, sexual immoralities, evil thoughts, arrogance, disobedience, immodesty, selfishness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, killing, envying, drunkenness, smoking, stealing, anger and covetousness. The sad news is that goat likes will be separated from the sheep likes on the judgment day, and will be cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil.

The Good news is that God loves you and does not want you to lose your soul in everlasting fire. He wants to make you sheep under the control of Shepherd Jesus. He wants you to humble yourself and surrender your life to Jesus. He wants you to repent from evil ways, forsake them, and ask Jesus for spiritual cleansing. He is waiting for you now to make decision and invite Jesus into your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing your mind unto me; I am willing to forsake all my evil ways and false worship. I want to be like sheep under your full control; wash me, save me, sanctify me, baptize me in the Holy Spirit and grant me the grace to continue as sheep under the watch of Jesus Christ in Jesus’ Name. Amen
