TRACT 142: DO YOU LOVE GOD?
"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also" 1John 4:20-21.
A story was narrated by a teacher to his primary school pupils on how three ladies were told by their pastor that Jesus would be their guest in their places of abode on a certain day. Indeed, the three ladies prepared, sanitized, decorated their apartments and prepared delicious meal on the expectant day. It happened that the person who locked at the door of the first lady was a lamed man with tattered cloth begging for food. The lady was irritated, picked offense at the plea of the lame man and told him to leave because she was expecting an important visitor. The second lady treated the lame man upon his arrival in like manner as the first lady and pursued him with stick. The third lady had compassion on the lame man upon his arrival. She took him in and gave portion of the delicious meal prepared for Jesus. The lame man blessed the woman, turned to Jesus and disappeared. The two other ladies regretted the ill treatment given to the lamed man when they heard the testimony of the first lady.
When we say that we love God, we show it by loving men. The way to prove our love to God is the way we honour human being whether a believer or unbeliever, poor or rich, black or white, same tribe or different tribe, member of the same denomination or different church denomination. We love God by the way we treat our family members with respect, our neighbours, colleagues at place of work and members of our community. Love does not speak evil of others; does not gossip, does not lie and blackmail others, does not despise others. Love neither make others to commit sin nor lead the souls of men to hell by our behaviours. Love provokes others to righteous living in Christ. Loving God means bringing out the best in others, living peacefully with all men and holily with God.
God first loved us by sending his Holy son to die for our sins. Christ demonstrated God's love by surrendering his life for us on the Cross of Calvary. One of the thieves on the Cross beside Jesus showed his love for Jesus at his dying hour. He believed on the Lord Jesus and became the first convert of Calvary to enter paradise with Jesus. If you truly love God, you will love Jesus for dying on the Cross and also have regard for all men.
Do you love God?
Prayers: Heavenly Father, thank you for the call to love my neighbours and to be a true follower of Jesus. I am very sorry for many times I have hurt the souls of men. Have mercy upon me and write my name in the Book of Life. Save me, sanctify me, baptize me and grant me the grace to show the love of Christ to others in words, actions and deeds always. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.
